Lesson 3. flageolets
first let’s start with the fact that the 12th fret divides our strings exactly into two parts. I.e. the length of the tension from the tailpiece to the 12th fret = the length from the head of the fretboard (and directly from the place where the strings start up – nut with notches) to the 12th fret. We all know that when the guitar «check» on it, builds it or not, compare the sound of the harmonics on the 12th fret and just the sound clamped on the 12th fret. Conclusion: the harmonics on the 12th fret absolutely identical note on it.
what odds you can bet flageolets (I beg you not to confuse the lad with a gap between two frets, the frets are the metal edges on the fretboard ):
4th fret — raises exactly two octaves of the note that is on this tune..
5th fret — raises 9.5 tone of the note, which on this fret(i.e. identical note 24-om fret of this string)
7th fret — raises exactly the octave of the note that is on this tune..
9th fret — raises 9.5 tone of the note that is on this tune
12th is identical to the note at the 12th fret.
to Talk about harmonics above the 12th fret it makes no sense since they are repeated in mirror reflection. Only in their symmetry is not on the frets and the distance from the 12th fret. For example, the harmonics on the 9th fret = flageolet 16) Note that they are at different distance from the 12th fret regarding the number of frets (12-9=3,and 16-12=4), but at the same distance relative to the length (straight line can be measured).
Also the harmonics on the 5th fret = flageolet at the 24th fret, you can take a ruler and measure.
And the harmonics on the 4th equal to the flageolet about pickup, not on the fretboard…
And even harmonics at the 4th equal to the harmonics on the 9th – this conclusion can be drawn from the definitions that I gave: the difference between the 4-m and 9-m-2.5 tones Flajolet 4-m gives an increase of 12 tones (two octaves),and the harmonics on the 9th yields a 9.5 tones, and 12-9 .5=2.5, and this is the difference between the 4th and 9th fret…the arithmetic is simple. The harmonics on the 24th as the note on fret, etc. in the overall experiment themselves…
I always meant one string on which we put flageolets(string, we can take any).
From what I said above, you can understand how to set up the guitar for the harmonics is my favorite way to tune the guitar…
And if it is good to grasp and understand something, you can use harmonics and artificial harmonics to compose and play tunes such as «In the forest Shuri» etc.
so, how to do harmonics…
Artificial harmonics to be raised is: to hold any string on any fret, and presented as if it were a zero fret of this string, then using the instructions that I gave above to put any harmonics. Only there is one detail – the right hand it is necessary first to hit the string, and then gently drown in the right place to retrieve the flageolet. For beginners, it is not an easy task, but to learn them quickly and accurately is not a problem — the main thing to want?.
«alternative» harmonics are mainly used in the reefs, they are very actively used by the guitarist from Disturbed, former Limp Bizkit guitarist Weight Borland and so I wrote one Gp-example, there are two reef, each uses natural harmonics.
